Any time: If you just bought a used mattress, couch or headboard, look it over carefully before it comes inside.

Before you unpack, check the seams and corners of mattresses, box springs and couches with a flashlight, along with the moving boxes that held bedding. Look for tiny dark spots, pale shed skins, or small flat bugs.

Wash and dry bedding, curtains and clothes on the hottest setting the fabric allows, then keep them in sealed bags until the home is cleared. Pull the bed a few inches away from the wall, and keep blankets from touching the floor.
